Advanced Technology

Powered by a 205 hp, 3.2 liter, 24-valve, direct ignition, DOHC V6, the VehiCROSS is
loaded with technical innovations, including an advanced TORQUE-ON-DEMAND
(TOD)* four-wheel drive system, that senses road conditions and automatically adjusts the
torque balance from front to rear wheels. The system offers the benefits of both 2WD and
4WD and will adjust from 100 percent rear drive to 50:50 4WD, with any ratio in between.
With its TOD system, the VehiCROSS functions as a rear drive vehicle during low to medium
speed driving on straight, dry pavement. At higher acceleration and on winding and
snow-covered roads, torque is shifted to the front wheels as conditions demand until the
system delivers up to 50:50 4WD. This, coupled with a limited slip differential and
four-wheel ABS, assures consistent all-weather traction.
Advanced technology continues with the suspension.
Isuzu's proven front double wishbone and rear center, four-link coil suspension, are
augmented by an industry first. The Isuzu VehiCROSS is the first production SUV to use an
innovative aluminum shock absorber which incorporates a "piggyback reservoir".
This shock design separates oil from gas and delivers greater damping efficiencies by
eliminating the aeration and cavitation which normally occur in conventional gas/oil shock
absorber systems. Superior shock cooling is a benefit of this system, particularly
noticeable during high performance driving.
Stopping power is provided through 8.7 inch
ventilated front and 10.6 inch ventilated rear discs. Aluminum, five-spoke wheels mounted
with especially modified 245/70R16 steel belted radial tires are standard.
Breakthrough Styling
VehiCROSS styling abandons the conventional look of 20th century SUV's and provides a
techno-design more suited to the new millennium. Reflective of Isuzu's breakthrough Deseo
concept SUV, the spare tire is enclosed within the tailgate. The roof-end spoiler works as
an air-deflector which helps keep the rear window free of water and dirt. Roof rails and
an amplified, roof-mounted, detachable antenna, reinforce the high-tech look as do the
integrated headlamp with marker lights and the airplane-type gas filler. Zinc-plated steel
is used for the upper body, while the lower body is constructed of tough, recyclable,
unpainted polypropylene. Composite bumpers and under-body moldings complete the body
design.
Inside, the VehiCROSS provides seating for four. Comfort is assured with fully-automatic
air conditioning, reclining Recaro® "Trend"® front seats, rear folding 50/50
split seats, tinted glass and a leather wrapped steering wheel. Tilt wheel, power windows
with driver's side "one touch auto down," an integrated electric door lock
system and electronically-controlled collapsible, heated door mirrors are standard.
Forward visibility is enhanced by windshield washers/intermittent wipers as well as side
and rear defrosters.
The instrument panel houses stylized carbon-fiber tachometer and speedometer, along with
fuel and temperature gauges. In addition, a TOD indicator provides the driver with
information regarding the proportion of front and rear torque at any given moment.
Rounding out the panel are, "winter" and "power" drive displays.
Eye-easing amber dash light enhances driver night vision.
Safety features include a driver and passenger SRS airbag system, front and rear 3-point
seat belts and side-door beams.
